North Barningham, St Peter, Norfolk: Simple, Serene and Beautiful

This is a photograph composed in my 'mind's eye', before being 'captured' by the lens of my iPhone. North Barningham, St Peter, has the slightly mouldering appearance that characterises so many Churches Conservation Trust sites - and it is a 'look' that greatly appeals to me. From this perspective I Love how:

-> The light from the nave windows illuminates the font - and it is a soft, delicate light that feels exquisite to me

-> The elegant upward flow of the intersecting tracery in the window is beautiful too

-> The patchy, peeling, pink walls are showing their age and betray the texture of time past

-> The pale simple font, with its pastel blue cover, stands poignant and alone... how long ago, I wonder, was it that a baby was baptised here?

-> A 'lonely' chair placed by the south door awaits some human company

-> A parade of old benches remember the throng of long departed congregations

-> The whole 'scene' is framed by the old chiselled stone arch

-> There is a stillness here

For me, places like this are simple and serene and beautiful; within them I can feel the stresses of my 'workaday' world falling from me.
